Dennis Saller, LEP, PPS · Licensed Educational Psychologist · Working with students with reading and learning difficulties since 1999

Who this service helps

Students from elementary through high school, plus college students who need reading and writing support, including students with:

  • Dyslexia or dysgraphia
  • Reading, writing, spelling, or fluency difficulties
  • Attention and executive-function weaknesses that affect learning
  • Weak academic automaticity or inefficient learning strategies
  • Frustration or low confidence related to school performance

Does my child need a diagnosis first?

No. Most students Dennis works with have never been formally evaluated. If a full evaluation would help later, he'll tell you, but it isn't required to start.

Specialized Reading & Writing Instruction

RebLearn's learning support goes beyond traditional tutoring. Instruction is designed around the cognitive processes that underlie reading, writing, language, and fluent academic performance.

Instruction targets the underlying skills that make reading and writing work, not just the homework in front of your child. Depending on your child's needs, sessions may focus on:

Handwriting, Writing Fluency & Written Expression

Handwriting instruction focuses on legibility, automaticity, and fluency — not simply making handwriting look better. As students become more efficient at getting their ideas onto the page, they can devote more attention to sentence construction, organization, and composition.

Instruction connects handwriting directly with spelling, sentence writing, and increasingly sophisticated essay writing. For many students, improved writing fluency also supports stronger reading and overall academic confidence.

Research-Informed Reading & Language Instruction

Reading instruction is informed by cognitive-processing research and the work of researchers such as Virginia Berninger at the University of Washington, with explicit attention to the connections among phonology, orthography, morphology, reading, writing, and oral language.

The goal is not merely to help a student read a passage correctly. Students develop greater automaticity, vocabulary, verbal formulation, and confidence expressing what they know. As language becomes easier to access and organize, many students also become more comfortable speaking, explaining their ideas, and participating socially and academically.

Reading

  • Foundational phonics and the English alphabetic system
  • Phonological processing
  • Decoding
  • Orthographic mapping
  • Reading fluency

Writing

  • Spelling
  • Handwriting
  • Written expression

Learning skills

  • Attention and executive-function skills
  • Self-monitoring and metacognitive awareness
  • Emotional regulation, coping, and confidence in learning

The larger goal is fluency — not just accuracy. Students should be able to read, write, and communicate with less effort so that their attention can shift from mechanics to ideas.

What individualized sessions involve

Your child works directly with Dennis. Specialized intervention means teaching the specific skills a student is missing, in the order they need them, rather than re-teaching classroom material the same way.

  • 1:1 or small group instruction (2–3 students)
  • Evidence-based intervention methods
  • Instruction designed around your child's learning profile
  • Informed by Dennis's background in psychoeducational assessment and cognitive processing
